I know- this is veering off the path we’ve started down.
However, I also have great information I want to share with y’all as well.
So let’s dive right on in and talk about one of my favorite subjects- selecting monograms!
First and foremost- It’s always about communication.
When I work with clients on any type of embroidery, it’s a back-and-forth conversation… a collaboration. It’s not a one-size-fits-all. It’s a very personal process. And the process continues until the client is ecstatic and has that WOW moment. Don’t we all want (AND love) a WOW moment?
Whether your monogram is traditional, custom, intertwined or paired with an elaborate flourish, it’s wise to spend the time upfront making sure the monogram is exactly what you want. After all- you’ll likely be living with it for a while. Wouldn’t you rather smile every time you look at that monogram on a slipcover, a window treatment, bedding or drapes?
With that in mind, here are a few questions to consider as you begin to choose the perfect monogram for you or your client:
There’s no such thing as too much information.
Do you have a font already in mind?
Where will you use the monogram?
Have you thought about size?
How do you want it to ‘feel’?
Will it stand alone or be surrounded by a frame or flourish?
The questions you ask help guide the process.
How do I make my monogram unique to me?
I’m not sure exactly what I want… can you show me several different types of monograms and fonts?
I want my monogram to be super-sized. What do I need to request?
My client is getting married and wants a custom joint monogram. Where do we start?
I’d like to have a special message included on this custom quilt. What’s possible?
My client wants a custom monogram- something she won’t see anywhere else. How would I begin?
These are all important questions to consider when choosing a monogram. This is not a time to hold back! So let your questions flow.
