I’ve been traveling down memory lane this morning. And oh, it’s just been fantastic.
Would you like to come along with me?
I recently received a few pictures from a dear client. Well, client is too formal of a word for me. Let’s just push that word aside, shall we?
Ashley is just the sweetest, dearest person. And her sister, her mom, her dad, etc. etc. The whole stinkin’ family- I love them all. And the pictures I received made me homesick- even though they lived in St. Louis at the time of install. Yes- we live in Atlanta. It was one heck of a roadtrip!
So receiving these pictures- it was like an unexpected Christmas gift that arrives in the summer and they just made my little heart smile! And I have no doubt that this project will always be one of my faves.
Baby Beckham is no longer a baby. He’s 2 years old now. So let me back up to the original project. Wouldn’t you like to find out what type of project will always be a fave?
Well… it’s a little man tent. Actually, a slipcovered, embroidered little man tent… complete with faux roman shades.

And I entertained visions of tents, teepees, caves and slipcovers for weeks.
My hubby at one point even declared it an increasingly disturbing mental health issue.
I say it’s creative design in-the-making.
(Obviously, it’s our very different perspectives that have kept us happily married for 20 years!)
You see… Beckham’s mom allowed me creative license for his nursery. She asked for a few fabrics to be included along with room darkening drapes. Otherwise, she was open to whatever other design I created. Wow! Talk about a dream client. That also meant there needed to be a wow factor. For lack of a better term, we called it Lumberjack Chic. Can you envision it? I bet you can.
And center stage- a little man tent.
Seriously y’all… what little fella wouldn’t like his own miniature man cave? Grown men love them…
And just what if that little man cave was slipcovered and embroidered? With faux Roman shades? Eeeek- So. Much. Fun!
After indulging many visions that danced in my head for entirely too long, I finally installed Beckham’s little man cave when he was 3 months old. He was ecstatic… or as ecstatic as a 3-month old could be.
True- Baby Beckham didn’t really know he had a little man cave yet. BUT I was imagining that one day he would jump up and down with excitement (probably when he visited a friend’s house and realized not everyone had their own little man cave! Oops.)

Regardless… Baby Beckham has a very unique play area that will grow right along with him through the years. And even when he doesn’t enjoy it, Mom, Dad and doggie Apollo love it!
Apollo can often be found holding down the fort when Beckham is at ‘school’. AND the tent is large enough for family fun, reading and playing with friends and cousins. They also love that it is possible to fold the little man tent to slide under a bed or place inside a closet with the loosening of 2 bolts and the sliding of one brace- which came in handy when they recently moved from St. Louis to Tampa.
And if you can’t tell- I had an absolute ball making it!
